I'm using dial-up
connection from our ISP. How can I protect my password?
1.
Don't allow Microsoft to remember your password.
2.
Don't write it down anywhere.
3.
Make sure you follow password best practices (8 characters,
use numbers and upper and lower case letters, don't use a word)

4.
Make sure you keep your Virus software up to date to
protect against trojans.
Other than that there is not a lot you can do, they are
usualy sent in the clear so could be sniffed from the network.

-
Choose a good password -- don't use an
easily guessed password.
-
If you have a dial up script - protect
your computer, preferably do not automatically store your password
within the script but enter it each time
Connecting with your ISP and checking your e-mail
may be using two separate passwords and authenticating through different
means. You may be exposed to a vulnerability if either of these is sending
the password unencrypted. there are other things to consider. The first
recommendation is that you create strong passwords. At least eight
characters utilizing upper- and lower-case, numbers and special
characters. Second, change your password regularly. Third, don't store
your ID and password within any of your applications. If your PC is stolen
or someone gains access to it they will have no problem getting in to your
ISP if you're providing them the ID and password. And
lastly, never write your password down or share it
with others.
While much of this might
seem common sense to many people, these items are overlooked too
frequently. www.tartoos.com
