outcome, used as an advanced organizer to indicate how the learner's
acquisition of skills and knowledge is being measured.

Internal or external sites often organized around tightly focused topics,
which contain technologies (ranging from chat rooms to groupware) that
enable users to submit and retrieve information.
Learning
portal: Any Website that offers learners or
organizations consolidated access to learning and training resources from
multiple sources. Operators of learning portals are also called content
aggregators, distributors, or hosts.

solution:
1) Any
combination of technology and methodology that delivers learning. 2)
Software and/or hardware products that suppliers tout as answers to
businesses' training needs.

space:
An imaginary geography in which the learning enterprise flourishes. Mapped
by market analysts and mined by consultants, this territory is a recent
annexation to the business landscape.
legacy :
Any feature in the computer
system based on older technology for which compatibility continues to be
maintained in other system components. In the context of Windows 98, a
non-Plug and Play feature.
Link: The result of HTML markup signifying to a browser that data
within a document will automatically connect with either nested data or an
outside source. Used in the design of hypertext.
Link Control Protocol (LCP)
:A
protocol that establishes, configures, and tests the integrity of a
data-link connection.
Listserv: A form of one-to-many communication using email;
a software program for automating mailing lists and discussion groups on a
computer network.
license key:
A string that, if present, allows a software component to be created.
LMS (learning
management system):
Software that automates the administration of training. The LMS registers
users, tracks courses in a catalog, records data from learners; and provides
reports to management. An LMS is typically designed to handle courses by
multiple publishers and providers. It usually doesn't include its own
authoring capabilities; instead, it focuses on managing courses created by a
variety of other sources.

Localization:
The tailoring of an offering to meet the specific needs of a
geographic area, product, or target audience.
local loop : The
copper wires running between the telephone subscriber's home or business and
the phone company switch.
location :A
set of dialing rules defining a place from which a user makes Dial-Up
Networking connection.
Log in/Log on: To establish a connection over a network or modem with a
remote computer to retrieve or exchange information.
logical block addressing
(LBA) : A method of accessing hard
disk drives based on the extensions of INT 13.
Logon/Login:
Any process in which a user must provide a specific user name and password
to gain access to some remote computer, application, or service (such as
e-mail).
logon script
:A
batch file that runs automatically every time the user logs on. It can be
used to configure a user’s working environment at every logon, and it
allows an administrator to control a user’s environment without managing
all aspects of it.
Log off: To terminate a connection to a computer or

LRN:
Microsoft's Learning Resource Interchange, a format that
gives content creators a standard way to identify, share, update, and create
online content and courseware. LRN is the first commercial application of
the
IMS Content Packaging Specification.
LSP
(learning service provider): A specialized ASP offering learning management and training
delivery software on a hosted or rental basis.
Lurking: Reading the postings in a discussion forum or on
a listserv but not contributing to the discussion.
